When Should I hike the Appalachian Trail??????????? during or after college?

I am a community college student with a high GPA and I plan on transferring to a respectable university such as, Fordham or Depaul to double major in finance/psychology. I want to work on wall street. I've always wanted to hike the entire AT all 2175 miles. It will be a test of determination and perserverance. If I can challenge myself this way and succeed there will be nothing I can't do...Should I A, take off a year in community college to hike the trail and put it on my transfer application or just wait until after school all together? Hiking the trail will set me back 1 year of school, however, it could be a good hook for admissions and a very good hook for wall street as it does show a certain mindset that wall street likes.
